CTB Biomedical Technology Center

Center for Biomedical Technologies

The Center for Biomedical Technology (CTB) conducts scientific and R&D activities in health and medicine, combining cutting-edge biological
and engineering technologies with the goal of improving diagnosis, therapy and prevention of diseases of civilization.

It focuses on research and development in areas:

Area of Nanomaterials and Medical Biotechnology

We conduct interdisciplinary research at the intersection of nanotechnology, biotechnology and medicine, focused on developing innovative therapeutic solutions for civilization diseases and personalized medicine. We combine basic research with high-translational potential activities, addressing key challenges in modern healthcare, such as antibiotic resistance, limited efficacy of anti-cancer therapies and the need for precise and safe drug formulations and conjugates. In parallel, we are developing technologies with high implementation potential, targeting the biomedical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors.

The scope of the area’s activities includes:

  • Design and synthesis of smart drug delivery systems and bioactive nanomaterials, taking into account the principles of green chemistry, sustainable development and the closed loop economy (GOZ)
  • Advanced multiscale physicochemical and spectroscopic characterization of nanomaterials and (bio)hybrid materials to support the rational design of functional structures, using methods such as FTIR, UV-Vis and fluorescence techniques
  • Studies of antimicrobial activity (bacteria, fungi) with analysis of mechanisms of action and biological response
  • Comprehensive evaluation of the effects of materials on normal and cancer cells, including cytotoxicity, therapeutic efficacy and modulation of cellular processes
  • High-resolution imaging of biological processes and (bio)materials, using CARS (Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering) and confocal and fluorescence microscopy
  • Analyze the molecular response of cells using molecular biology methods, including RT-PCR, to identify mechanisms of action and markers of efficacy
  • Create advanced 2D and 3D translational cellular models to reliably assess the efficacy and safety of new therapies at the preclinical stage

Diagnostic Engineering and Biosensors Area

We carry out scientific research and development in the field of medical technology and apparatus to create and develop advanced technologies for health care and promotion and their practical application.

We have many years of experience in creating diagnostic systems and designing medical devices in the areas of cardiology, neurology and rehabilitation. In our projects we use modern ICT solutions.

The area’s scope of activity includes all stages of the process of developing a new medical device, i.e. research, development, design and prototyping, and, in cooperation with other units of the Institute, conformity assessment and preparation for certification, as well as marketing and use in the EU.

The scope of the area’s activities includes:

  • innovative diagnostic and therapeutic techniques
  • biomedical signal acquisition and processing
  • telemedicine systems
  • medical robot control systems
  • applications of electromagnetism
